Lead Power Systems Engineer Rolle in Sydney

Lead & Senior Power Systems Engineer | Sydney or Brisbane (Hybrid) | Renewable Energy Developer

My client is a renewable energy developer who has already delivered over 1GW of solar and storage into operation in the NEM, with a similarly sized development portfolio approaching financial close and a strong long-term pipeline behind it.

As they grow their trading and grid capability, they are hiring two Power Systems Engineers, a Lead and a Senior, to join the Grid team reporting to the Head of Grid and Project Execution. Both roles offer a hybrid arrangement based out of Sydney or Brisbane, with flexibility for candidates elsewhere who are comfortable with regular travel to one of the two offices.

What you will be doing

• Preparing R0 and R1 packages, either in-house or through management and peer review of external consultants
• Leading negotiation of Generator Performance Standards against the requirements of the National Electricity Rules
• Grid modelling using PSSE and PSCAD, ensuring quality and compliance of R0 and R1 packages in support of 534A and B letters
• Working with OEMs to optimise performance against automatic access standards
• Driving compliance with Dynamic Model Acceptance Testing and Power System Modelling Guidelines, including review of studies conducted in-house and by third parties
• Partnering with the Project Development team on constraints, load flow and capacity for new and emerging development sites
• Building relationships with AEMO, NSPs, consultants, contractors and OEMs

What they are looking for

• Tertiary qualifications in grid modelling or electrical engineering, with Australian experience in grid connection and electrical design
• Experience performing and managing grid studies in PSCAD and PSSE
• A track record negotiating GPS outcomes with NSPs and AEMO
• Solid understanding of the NER, National Electricity Law and related state legislation
• Strong communication skills and a solutions-focused approach to resolving complex technical issues
• For the Lead role, 5+ years relevant Australian experience is expected, along with confidence managing external consultants and potentially other Power System Engineers
• Experience with CIS or LTESA tender responses, reverse DC coupled hybrids or grid forming batteries is a plus for either role
