About the Opportunity
We are working with a global power management and energy solutions organisation that operates at the forefront of critical infrastructure and data centre power systems
. This business plays a pivotal role in enabling secure, resilient, and future‑ready energy solutions for some of the region’s largest and most complex facilities.
As data centre demand accelerates across Australia and New Zealand, they are seeking a Grid Connection Engineer/Manager to establish and strengthen internal capability across AEMO and NSP grid connection requirements
. This is a highly visible, technically influential role with strong exposure to senior stakeholders, global R&D teams, and major enterprise customers.
If you enjoy bridging the gap between grid regulations, emerging technologies, and customer‑facing engineering solutions, this role offers both breadth and impact.
The Role
Grid Connection Engineer, you will act as a subject matter expert for large data centre grid connections, advising both internal teams and customers on compliance with NEM requirements and network service provider expectations.
While this is not a traditional project delivery role, it is technically deep and strategically important—focused on advisory, enablement, pre‑sales support, and technical leadership rather than day‑to‑day modelling delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain expert knowledge of ANZ grid connection requirements, National Electricity Rules, and emerging regulatory challenges for new large customer connections.
- Monitor upcoming regulatory and technology changes and provide risk‑versus‑opportunity analysis to senior management.
- Collaborate closely with global R&D teams on modelling requirements and technical capability related to PSCAD, PSS®E, and PowerFactory.
- Assess the grid impacts of emerging technologies including data centres, HVDC, BESS, and EV infrastructure.
- Support pre‑sales and solution design, working with customers to understand business drivers, technical objectives, and grid‑related constraints.
- Actively engage with customers to understand pain points and position compliant, value‑driven solutions.
- Partner with product management, sales, and commercial teams to contribute to technical proposals, customer content, and solution strategies.
About You
Experience & Background
- 3+ years’ experience in the energy or utility sector, ideally with exposure to AEMO and/or network service providers.
- Strong understanding of grid connection processes and regulatory requirements for large electrical loads.
- Familiarity with power system modelling tools such as PSCAD, PSSE or PowerFactory (hands‑on modelling experience advantageous, but not essential).
- Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
Key Strengths
- Strong stakeholder engagement, relationship management, and communication skills.
- Ability to translate complex grid and regulatory concepts into practical, customer‑focused guidance.
- Confident working across technical, commercial, and executive audiences.
- Interest in emerging energy technologies and large‑scale infrastructure.
What’s on Offer
- Competitive salary package with bonus structure.
- Supportive, inclusive workplace culture with strong diversity and equity values.
- Outstanding professional and personal development programs.
- Opportunities to engage with global experts and cutting‑edge R&D initiatives.
- Additional benefits including volunteer days and practical office facilities.
