Principal Electrical Engineer – HV Substations & Transmission Lines

Enemix are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Principal Electrical Engineer to join our growing talented team in Perth. With major projects in tender, this role offers you a career-enhancing opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking projects in 500 KV substations and transmission lines

What You'll Do at Enemix:

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide technical leadership for professional engineers involved in complex engineering applications.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate the work of professional and technical staff.
  • Act as the principal technical authority for engineering activities, driving innovation in HV substations, transmission lines, and renewable energy projects.
  • Ensure cost efficiency across project lifecycles, from design to procurement, installation, operation, and maintenance.
  • Develop detailed designs for HV substations, transmission lines, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), solar farms, and wind farms.
  • Create technical specifications and address design issues in collaboration with management.
  • Mentor and lead engineers to deliver high-quality outputs.
  • Work closely with the Head of Engineering to determine budgets and schedules, while monitoring progress and team performance.

What We're Looking For:

Qualifications & Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with at least 8 years in primary design for HV plants.
  • A 4-year degree in Electrical Engineering (Bachelor’s level).
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) accreditation.
  • Advanced knowledge in HV cable design, earthing design, and lightning protection.
  • Expertise in insulation coordination, EMF, and lighting design.
  • Proficiency with software such as Cymcap and CDEGS (MALZ/MALT/SESshield); fair knowledge of EMTP, CDEGS (FCDIST, RESAP, HIFREQ, SPLITS) and PVsyst.
  • Strong understanding of HV and renewable energy equipment specifications, with the ability to develop specifications from basic information.
  • Basic understanding of secondary design for HV plants, solar, and wind farms.
  • Solid understanding of civil/structural interface requirements for HV substations.
  • Site experience during construction and commissioning of HV substations is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with CAD draughtspersons and across teams to optimize outputs.

What Your Day-to-Day Will Look Like:

  • Lead and mentor your team of engineers in delivering innovative, high-quality designs and solutions.
  • Oversee the design and development work for HV substations, transmission lines, and renewable energy projects.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, technical, and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor budgets, schedules, and overall project delivery for efficiency and success.
  • Address and resolve complex engineering challenges acting as a go-to technical specialist.
  • Engage in cross-disciplinary collaboration with management, CAD draughtspersons, and project teams.
  • Conduct detailed studies such as insulation coordination or lightning protection analyses.
  • Develop and review technical specifications, ensuring alignment with project and client requirements.

Your Expertise at a Glance:

Substation Design

  • Substation configuration and busbar schemes like single, double, and 1.5 CB schemes.
  • Plant layouts, underground services, and troubleshooting technical requirements.
  • Comprehensive experience in earthing designs, HV equipment specs, BESS, solar, wind farm integration, EMF, and lightning protection.

Transmission Line Electrical Design

  • Expertise in transposition, impedance calculation, and fittings.
  • Experience in electrical clearances, earthing designs, and lightning/surge protection.
  • Conducting noise, EMF, corona, and LFI (Low-Frequency Induction) studies.
