Overview
We're currently partnering with a leading TNSP who are looking for a motivated and skilled Power Systems Engineer - Network Connections to join their dynamic team! If you are passionate about solving complex problems in power systems and have expertise in tools like PSSE, PSCAD, or PowerFactory, this role is perfect for you.
Responsibilities
-Performing power system modeling, simulation, and analysis using tools such as PSSE, PSCAD, and PowerFactory
-Evaluating prospective power network connection projects and assessing their impacts on the grid
-Development and maintenance of power system models, including testing and commissioning
-System capability and system security analysis, including network transfer capability analysis
-Connection compliance and performance
-Supporting and conducting studies on power flow, fault levels, transient stability, and harmonics to ensure compliance with grid codes and policies
-Assisting in the integration of renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and battery storage into the power network while considering sustainability goals
-Preparing and reviewing technical reports, proposals, and documentation for grid connection and planning studies
-Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including network operators, stakeholders, and customers, to ensure optimal solutions and alignment in project execution.
-Staying updated on industry developments, regulatory frameworks, and emerging technologies in power systems
Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field
-Demonstrable competency in using industry-standard tools like PSSE, PSCAD, and PowerFactory
-Solid understanding of power system analysis, grid connection processes, and network operations
-Knowledge of transmission system reliability and performance
-Knowledge of substation and transmission system components, performance and operation
-Programming using Python or similar
-Knowledge of legislated industry requirements (National Electricity Rules, ESCOSA, OTR, AEMO Guidelines)
-Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail
-Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within a diverse team
