Our client, a prominent Distribution Network Service Provider (DNSP), is seeking a Principal Planning Engineer to drive innovation, sustainability, and reliability in power system planning. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead strategic energy initiatives and play a pivotal role in the energy transition, working directly on generation, transmission, and distribution planning projects.
Role Responsibilities
As the
Principal Planning Engineer
, you will:
- Lead and execute advanced power system planning studies, including generation, transmission, and distribution systems
- Conduct technical and economic analyses to optimize power system performance, bolster reliability, and meet evolving customer demands
- Develop and validate long-term resource and capacity plans aligned with regulatory, environmental, and market requirements
- Collaborate across teams to assess emerging technologies, renewable energy integration, and strategies for grid modernization
- Develop strategies for grid expansion, interconnections, and project feasibility with technical leadership
- Provide comprehensive technical reports, presentations, and informed recommendations to stakeholders, including executives, regulators, and industry partners
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering technical expertise and supporting team development
- Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and innovations to align planning methods with emerging power systems standards
What We’re Looking For
Our ideal candidate will be a senior-level engineer with outstanding leadership skills, exceptional technical expertise, and a passion for driving impactful energy solutions.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline
- 8+ years of professional experience in power system planning (generation, transmission, and/or distribution)
- Proficiency in power system analysis tools such as PSS®E, PowerFactory, or similar software
- Proven experience in load flow, dynamic stability, and contingency analysis
- Strong command of power market operations, renewable energy integration, and grid codes
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on innovative and sustainable solutions
- Exceptional communication, technical writing, and presentation skills for engaging stakeholders across all levels
Preferred Skills & Credentials:
- Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) accreditation or equivalent certification
- Expertise in regulatory frameworks and experience collaborating with utility regulators
- Familiarity with advanced optimization techniques, energy storage technologies, and emerging grid innovations
