Power Systems Engineer / Grid Connection Manager

The Opportunity

As a Power Systems Engineer / Grid Connection Manager, you will take ownership of delivering high‑quality technical studies, guiding projects through the grid connection process, and negotiating performance standards with market bodies. Working closely with development and operations teams, you will drive feasibility assessments, manage modelling activities, and oversee all aspects of grid compliance from concept to commissioning.

You’ll also collaborate with OEMs, consultants, NSPs and AEMO, ensuring all deliverables meet regulatory standards while maintaining efficiency and technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Feasibility & Technical Studies

  • Conduct power system assessments (system strength, congestion, thermal constraints, etc.).
  • Initiate grid connection processes including enquiries and preliminary assessments.
  • Lead modelling studies in PSSE, PSCAD and PowerFactory and prepare high‑quality technical reports.

Grid Connection Management

  • Prepare and submit full connection application packages to AEMO/NSPs.
  • Negotiate performance standards and respond to technical enquiries from market bodies.
  • Develop automation scripts to streamline modelling workflows.
  • Oversee third‑party consultants to ensure timely, accurate and compliant deliverables.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators, network providers, OEMs, and consultants.

Construction & Operations Support

  • Coordinate commissioning activities including generator registration, R2 testing and model validation.
  • Provide technical input on BoP design, protection, SCADA, and grid‑related specifications for EPC tenders.
  • Contribute to early works and connection asset planning.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Stay up to date with NEM regulations, ESM Rules, and emerging technologies.
  • Support research into innovative solutions such as microgrids or off‑grid systems.

About You

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Strong proficiency with PSSE, PSCAD and PowerFactory.
  • Programming/scripting capability for process automation.
  • Thorough understanding of NEM grid connection processes and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Knowledge of HV/MV systems, protection, and SCADA.
  • Passion for renewable energy and the future of Australia’s electricity market.
  • Ability to work permanently in Australia; interstate travel may be required on occasion.
