Principal BESS Engineer - Electrical

Enemix are seeking an experienced and dynamic Principal BESS Engineer from an electrical engineering background to join a grown team in a leading Solar, BESS and Wind developer/asset owner. In this role, you will lead and oversee the engineering, design and technical implementation of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) assets. You will play a critical role in advancing utility-scale battery infrastructure in Australia, driving the transition towards sustainable energy solutions. Responsibilities

• Lead detailed project engineering and oversee the end-to-end design of BESS systems, ensuring delivery aligns with both technical and commercial requirements.
• Provide expert technical guidance on the engineering, construction, and commissioning of BESS assets at a utility scale.
• Evaluate and select OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), ensuring compliance with specifications, performance standards, and quality requirements.
• Supervise the design of electrical systems and components of battery storage solutions, including integration with renewable generation sources and grid systems.
• Conduct technical review processes to ensure compliance with Australian grid regulations, codes, and best practices.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, EPC contractors, regulators, and clients, to deliver projects effectively.
• Assess and optimize system performance during testing and commissioning phases, ensuring systems meet key performance indicators.
• Monitor developments in BESS technology, standards, and Australian energy market regulations to provide strategic recommendations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in detailed project engineering, design, and technical implementation of utility-scale BESS assets.
• Strong understanding of energy storage technologies, electrical power systems, grid integration, and Australian utility standards.
• A proactive approach to troubleshooting and resolving complex engineering challenges.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Demonstrated experience leading large-scale technical projects from concept through completion.
• Familiarity with Australian grid codes, safety standards, and regulatory practices affecting energy storage systems.
