Construction Manager

Full-Time | Permanent | Major Infrastructure Project

Role Purpose

The Construction Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the delivery of land‑based transmission and linear infrastructure works. The role ensures construction activities are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contractual, technical, environmental, and stakeholder requirements.

Acting as the client’s on‑site representative, the Construction Manager provides leadership to contractor delivery teams, maintains strong governance and assurance, and supports senior project leadership in achieving project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Construction Delivery & Performance

  • Lead construction delivery across defined transmission work packages or corridors
  • Monitor contractor performance against scope, program, cost, quality, and safety targets
  • Ensure compliance with contracts, technical specifications, and approved construction methodologies
  • Review and endorse construction sequencing, staging, and access strategies
  • Proactively identify and manage construction, interface, and access risks

Safety Leadership

  • Champion a strong safety culture aligned with regulatory and project expectations
  • Ensure contractors implement effective WHS management systems
  • Lead safety walkdowns, audits, and performance reviews
  • Support incident investigations and close‑out of corrective actions

Commercial & Contract Management

  • Support senior leadership and commercial teams with contract administration
  • Review contractor variations, claims, extensions of time, and payment submissions
  • Monitor cost performance and identify potential commercial impacts
  • Escalate emerging contractual and commercial risks

Quality, Program & Compliance

  • Ensure works comply with approved designs, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Oversee Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), including hold and witness points
  • Monitor progress against baseline and recovery schedules
  • Lead regular contractor performance reviews and reporting
  • Ensure completion documentation and handover requirements are achieved

Stakeholder & Team Leadership

  • Manage interfaces between contractors, utilities, designers, and stakeholders
  • Coordinate construction activities across multiple work fronts
  • Lead and mentor client‑side field engineers, inspectors, and site representatives
  • Promote collaboration, accountability, and proactive problem‑solving

Experience & Capability

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
  • Extensive experience delivering transmission or linear infrastructure projects
  • Proven client‑side or superintendent’s representative experience
  • Strong understanding of construction contract models (e.g. D&C, Alliance, PPP)
  • Experience managing geographically dispersed work fronts, including regional environments
  • Strong commercial acumen, risk management capability, and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication, reporting, and decision‑making ability
