Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Design Manager to lead the design management of a 500kV substation project. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing the scope, budget, and design schedule while ensuring seamless collaboration with external design consultants and technical stakeholders such as AusNet and VicGrid.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design management of a 500kV substation project, ensuring all deliverables meet quality, safety, and compliance standards.
  • Manage the project scope, budget, and design schedule to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Coordinate and lead the activities of external design consultants, ensuring alignment with project objectives and stakeholder requirements.
  • Engage with key technical stakeholders, including AusNet and VicGrid, to ensure project alignment with regulatory and operational standards.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with the design phase of the project.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on project progress, challenges, and solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in design management, particularly in high-voltage substation projects (500kV preferred).
  • Strong understanding of project management principles, including scope, budget, and schedule management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage external design consultants and ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with experience working with technical stakeholders such as AusNet and VicGrid.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Australian electrical standards and regulations is highly desirable.

Day-to-Day

  • Lead design review meetings with external consultants and internal teams.
  • Monitor and track project progress, ensuring adherence to the design schedule and budget.
  • Collaborate with technical stakeholders to address design queries and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Identify potential design risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare and present detailed project reports to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Foster a collaborative and results-driven environment within the project team.
