Rol

Head of HSEQ, Risk & Business Transformation

Overview

Enemix is working with our client, a progressive head contractor specializing in electrical infrastructure projects, to identify an outstanding professional for this transformative role. Our client's culture is built on trust, safety, and quality—key pillars for delivering successful projects.

This is not a traditional HSEQ role.

As our client enters the next phase of growth, they are seeking a senior leader to take full ownership of their HSEQ, risk, governance, and business systems framework. With the foundations already being established, your role will be to make these systems operational, embed accountability across the organization, and ensure the framework is practical, consistently followed, and well understood. Once established, you will lead the next stage of improvement in systems, processes, digital platforms, data, and overall business performance.

Responsibilities

As the Head of HSEQ, Risk & Business Transformation, you will lead:

  • HSEQ, risk, and governance initiatives.
  • Management systems, compliance, and assurance programs.
  • Contractor and project assurance processes.
  • Incident management and organizational learning frameworks.
  • HSEQ reporting, data analysis, and performance tracking.
  • Leadership capability development and accountability measures.
  • Continuous improvement and business transformation projects.
  • Digital platforms, integration, and systems improvement.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will collaborate closely with executives, project teams, engineers, supervisors, and field personnel to seamlessly integrate HSEQ principles into the daily operations—not as a standalone function but as a core business priority.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Improve and maintain the management system in line with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 standards.
  • Lead the internal audit and assurance program.
  • Serve as the primary contact for certification bodies, clients, regulators, and auditors.
  • Oversee the end-to-end incident management framework, from conducting investigations to embedding lessons learned.
  • Design and implement a structured continuous improvement framework across the organization.
  • Evaluate and implement digital platforms that synchronize systems, reduce duplication, enhance data visibility, and centralize critical information.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Quality, Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Risk, Engineering, Business, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • Proven senior experience in QSE or HSEQ management.
  • In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, as well as OFSC criteria.
  • Demonstrable success in implementing, maintaining, and refining integrated management systems.
  • Exceptional expertise in risk management and assurance.
  • Experience in developing governance frameworks, business processes, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in incident management, including investigation and corrective action planning.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to remain operationally focused when needed.

Preferred:

  • Industry experience in electrical, utilities, energy, construction, infrastructure, or transmission and distribution environments.
  • Familiarity with OFSC accreditation, Principal Contractor environments, or high-risk, large-scale construction projects.
  • Experience with digital system enhancements, ERP platforms, or HSEQ digital tools.

Your First 12 Months

This role comes with the flexibility to tailor your approach. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to present a 3, 6, and 12-month roadmap to outline their strategies and priorities. This process will help our client understand your thought process, leadership style, and approach to challenges.

Additionally, you will have the unique opportunity to design the future structure of the department, identify areas for development, and build a team to drive sustained growth. With a firm foundation in place, you will play a key role in shaping a high-impact function.

What Success Looks Like

  • Business leaders take full ownership of their risks and responsibilities.
  • The HSEQ framework is practical, widely understood, and consistently applied across the organization.
  • HSEQ is recognized as a driver of performance rather than a compliance function.
  • Governance improves decision-making and operational transparency.
  • Efficient, scalable systems are effectively deployed.
  • Key lessons from incidents and assurance programs inform continuous improvements.
  • Digital tools improve efficiency, reduce administrative duplication, and enhance data visibility.
  • The HSEQ function earns credibility and is respected for its strategic and operational impact.

Benefits

  • Lead and transform a critical function within a growing organization.
  • Excellent remuneration package with flexibility based on value, responsibilities, and outcomes.
  • Opportunities for flexible working arrangements after the first 12–18 months.
  • Regular travel opportunities to construction sites across NSW and Victoria, and potentially nationwide.
  • Make an impact through the ability to build and lead a team, shaping the future of the HSEQ function.

Location & Travel

The position will initially be based at our client’s office just outside of Sydney CBD, with frequent travel to construction sites across NSW and Victoria. As the business grows, there may be opportunities for national travel. Regular site visits are required to engage with teams, foster relationships, and establish credibility with project and field personnel.

Why This Role?

This is your opportunity to take ownership and drive transformation. With the foundation in place, you can work with our client to build and embed robust systems, lead continuous improvement, and contribute to their ongoing success and expansion.

If you are a forward-thinking, motivated professional looking to create meaningful impact through innovation and leadership, we encourage you to apply.
