About the Role

The Asset Engineer (Utility‑Scale) plays a key role in supporting the safe, reliable and commercially optimised performance of large‑scale renewable energy assets. This position spans construction transition, operational engineering, contractor oversight, technical troubleshooting, and strategic project support. The role requires a strong engineering foundation, strong commercial awareness, and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

Key Responsibilities

Construction & Commissioning:

  • Develop and manage transition plans from construction through to operations.
  • Support commissioning activities to ensure assets are safely and efficiently brought into service.

Operations & Asset Management:

  • Oversee day‑to‑day safety, ESG, risk management and operational performance across one or more renewable energy assets.
  • Manage contractors, maintain relationships with landowners and local communities, and oversee compliance with operational requirements.
  • Review operational data and prepare asset management plans, procedures, Board reports and technical documentation.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for faults or underperformance.
  • Prepare budgets and manage operating expenses within delegated authority.
  • Monitor electricity market behaviour including bidding strategies, FCAS, MLF impacts and grid constraints, working with commercial teams to identify improvement opportunities.

Project & Technical Support

  • Contribute to technical due diligence for potential asset acquisitions.
  • Lead and manage capex projects including planning, reporting, cost control, schedule adherence and lessons learned.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and support capability growth within the team.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively from field personnel to executive stakeholders.
  • Robust commercial acumen and the ability to evaluate technical solutions through both engineering and business lenses.
  • High attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Developed task and time‑management capabilities, able to prioritise competing demands.
  • Proficiency in contract and project management.
  • Strong competency with Microsoft Office and asset‑related software/tools.
  • Ability to analyse operational data and drive performance improvements.
  • Strong problem‑solving capability with the ability to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships internally and externally.

Knowledge & Experience

  • 3–7 years of engineering experience in the energy sector, ideally within renewable power generation.
  • Experience in safety and risk management within operational environments.
  • Strong understanding of power generation principles and balance‑of‑plant systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical equipment such as SCADA, HV cables, transmission lines, switchgear, transformers, reactive plant, control and protection systems and substation auxiliary systems.
  • Experience in developing, monitoring and managing KPIs for contractors or service providers.
  • Knowledge of asset maintenance planning, reliability programs and budgeting.
  • Experience solving complex engineering problems and delivering innovative technical solutions.
  • Understanding of National Electricity Rules as they relate to Generator Performance Standards.
  • Familiarity with NEM operations, AEMO processes and TNSP interactions.
  • Working knowledge of relevant Australian Acts, Regulations, Codes of Practice and standards.
