Field Service Engineer – Energy Storage (Hybrid, Netherlands)

Your Role – Field Service Engineer

As a Field Service Engineer, you will play a critical role in commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and service of commercial and utility scale battery systems. Each day is different, combining hands-on site work, diagnostics, reporting, administration, and collaboration with technical teams.

Typical Weekly Structure

  • 3 to 4 days per week on customer sites
  • 1 day per week at the warehouse and R&D centre for meetings, planning, preparation, tickets, documentation, and admin
  • On-site days usually run 9:00 to 13:00, followed by remote work including tickets, forms, and reporting

What You Will Do

On-site work

  • Diagnose issues such as communication errors, lost grid meter readings, open contactors or strings, or general system disruptions
  • Resolve issues by examining component behaviour, closing contactors, and coordinating with EMS teams
  • Handle hardware checks, minor physical issues such as cosmetic battery container damage, and general field problem solving
  • Perform service and maintenance inspections every 6 months with detailed photographic and technical documentation
  • Support commissioning of new systems
  • Use IR cameras for thermal checks and ensure accurate data capture

Admin and reporting

  • Complete commissioning forms, inspection sheets, and service documentation
  • Manage Gira ticketing for follow-ups and remote support
  • Maintain accurate logs of system behaviour, values, issues, and resolutions
  • Collect tools or parts delivered to your personal locker

Collaboration

  • Work closely with Operations, Asset Management, PMO, and Technical teams
  • Coordinate with EMS and BMS specialists during troubleshooting
  • Participate in weekly meetings and planning sessions

What You Bring

Essential

  • Experience in Field Service, ideally within BESS, UPS, communication cabling, grid meters, or power systems
  • Understanding of AC and DC fundamentals, batteries, and PCS or inverters
  • Strong technical troubleshooting experience
  • Fluent Dutch speaker (Dutch passport required for certain sites)
  • Valid B driving licence
  • Comfortable with reporting, administration, and structured documentation
  • Willingness to travel across the Netherlands
  • Independent, proactive, and reliable

Qualifications

  • VCA mandatory
  • NEN1010 and NEN3140 preferred (training can be provided)

Nice to have

  • Experience in commercial or industrial or utility environments
  • Background in solar, inverters, chargers, or batteries
  • Familiarity with commissioning of energy systems

Performance Expectations (First 3 to 6 Months)

  • Independently executing service and maintenance inspections
  • Successfully supporting commissioning activities
  • Accurate and consistent reporting and ticket management
  • Strong collaboration with internal teams
  • Reliable on-site troubleshooting and fast issue resolution
  • Confidence to manage 3 to 4 site days per week

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base
  • Holiday allowance: 8%
  • Holiday days: 25-35 days per year, to be discussed with line manager.
  • Travel: Company van.
  • Contract type: 1 year fixed term, with the intention to extend indefinitely
  • Pension scheme: Strong pension scheme paid majority by the employer
