We are seeking a Project Manager – Substations to lead the delivery of a flagship 1 GW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) power plant at 380kV, including a substation with 4 x 300 MVA transformers, scheduled for completion in 2028. This role also involves managing a wider portfolio of grid infrastructure projects and leading a team of dedicated engineers.

Responsibilities

As the Project Manager – Substations, you will:

  • Lead Substation Delivery: Oversee the design and delivery of a 1 GW BESS power plant at 380kV, including a 4 x 300 MVA transformer substation, ensuring successful completion by 2028.
  • Portfolio Management: Manage the delivery of a broader portfolio of grid infrastructure projects, extending beyond Germany.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop a small team of dedicated engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Act as a key point of contact for grid connection and substation matters, working closely with the Head of Grid and coordinating with TSOs and other grid stakeholders.
  • Technical Oversight: Support the planning, design, and delivery of high-voltage infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with German and European technical standards.

Qualifications

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated professional with the following qualifications:

Essential

  • Language Skills: Fluent in German and proficient in English.
  • Technical Expertise: High-voltage substation experience at 110kV and above, with a strong understanding of primary, secondary, and protection systems.
  • TSO Experience: Direct experience working with or alongside Transmission System Operators (TSOs).
  • Project Management: Proven track record in managing substation, grid connection, or high-voltage infrastructure projects.
  • Educational Background: Degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with German and European technical standards in the power sector.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Experience working in multidisciplinary engineering environments and managing complex technical interfaces.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Structured, solution-oriented engineering mindset with a holistic system view.

Preferred

  • Leadership Experience: Prior experience managing or mentoring engineers.
  • Renewable Energy Exposure: Familiarity with BESS, solar, or hybrid renewable energy projects.
