About the Role

We are seeking a Energy Trader to join a high‑performing Energy Markets team focused on revenue optimisation for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This role is central to shaping and executing both day‑ahead and real‑time trading strategies, leveraging advanced analytics, automated bidding tools, and deep market insights.

You will work closely with analytics specialists to develop and refine in‑house trading tools, test and validate new strategies, and monitor market conditions to make informed, real‑time decisions. The position operates within a trading roster that includes early, late, and periodic weekend shifts, with flexibility to work between a trading control room and home.

This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded trader with strong analytical instincts who wants to influence BESS performance in a fast‑evolving market.

Key Responsibilities

Trading & Market Execution

  • Monitor real‑time and day‑ahead market conditions, adjusting trading positions and strategies as needed.
  • Execute BESS optimisation strategies through automated bidding tools and manual interventions where required.

Back‑Testing & Strategy Development

  • Use historical data to evaluate, validate, and refine trading strategies.
  • Conduct simulations and scenario analysis to improve strategy robustness.

Data Analysis & Insights

  • Apply in‑house and third‑party analytical tools to assess risks, identify market opportunities, and refine decision‑making.
  • Interpret spot price drivers, dispatch dynamics, and market signals to improve trading performance.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work with analytics, technology, and commercial teams to enhance trading models and tool functionality.
  • Contribute to improving automated bidding logic and the broader BESS trading framework.

General Duties

  • Take initiative, maintain a strong work ethic, and uphold professional standards at all times.
  • Carry out additional tasks as reasonably required.

About You

  • Experience in electricity trading, energy markets, or quantitative trading (NEM or similar power markets preferred).
  • Strong understanding of spot market dynamics, dispatch processes, and price formation.
  • Proven ability to execute and adjust trading strategies in real time.
  • Experience with analytical tools such as Python, R, or SQL.
  • Previous experience in an energy trading or market operations environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with analytics or technical teams to enhance trading tools and auto‑bidding strategies.
  • Sound commercial judgment and the ability to make high‑stakes decisions under time pressure.
