Overview

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled

Principal Transmission Line Engineer to take a leadership role in designing and managing the development of Transmission Lines for a major infrastructure project in Melbourne. As a Principal Transmission Line Engineer, you must demonstrate advanced expertise in PLS-CADD, as well as an ability to lead and manage high-voltage transmission line projects, particularly 500kV systems. Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and engineering efforts for a 500kV Transmission Line, ensuring all deliverables meet stringent quality, safety, and compliance benchmarks.
  • Develop and review comprehensive PLS-CADD models, including detailed line routing, clearance analysis, and sag-tension design to meet project objectives.
  • Manage project scope, budget, and design schedule to deliver successful, timely, and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for PLS-CADD-related design, offering clear direction and recommendations to the engineering team.
  • Oversee and collaborate with external design consultants, ensuring adherence to project requirements and consistency with engineering best practices.
  • Effectively engage and align with key project stakeholders, to ensure project compliance with Australian standards and local regulations.
  • Proactively identify and resolve technical and design risks, minimizing impacts on project timelines.
  • Serve as a mentor and guide to junior engineers and staff involved in transmission line design.
  • Provide regular project updates and strategic recommendations to senior management, clients, and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Strong technical expertise and extensive hands-on experience with PLS-CADD design and optimization.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of progressive experience in high-voltage transmission line design, with specific focus on 500kV systems preferred.
  • Proven leadership skills in managing and coordinating diverse engineering teams and external consultants.
  • Deep understanding of the full project lifecycle, including scope, budget management, project schedules, risk mitigation, and quality assurance.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with substantial experience working with utilities.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a demonstrated track record of delivering complex projects under tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Australian electrical standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements (preferred).
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills for effective cross-disciplinary teamwork.
