More about this Energy Trading Analyst Role
Energy Trading Analyst
NEM & WEM | Sydney, Brisbane or Canberra
Our client is a global leader in renewable energy, with one of Australia's largest and fastest growing portfolios of wind, solar and battery storage assets. They are looking for an Energy Trading Analyst to join their Energy Team and take ownership of trading performance across the NEM and WEM.
This role suits someone who lives and breathes energy markets. You will bring deep knowledge of dispatch processes, market dynamics and risk, and apply that expertise to optimise the performance of a market-leading trading portfolio.
The Role
Reporting to the Energy Markets Operations Lead, you will manage the real-time performance of trading strategies across Australia's energy markets. You will work within a team that combines strong market expertise with quantitative and technical capability, and your focus will be on market analysis, strategy and performance rather than on building software.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop expert-level understanding of AEMO's dispatch processes across the NEM and WEM, and how they interact with the business's physical assets
- Monitor and tune trading strategies in real time, optimising revenue against risk across a large and diverse portfolio
- Conduct in-depth analysis of market conditions, network constraints and competitor behaviour
- Identify and validate new trading strategies in collaboration with the wider Energy Management team
- Track and report on trading performance against the market and against competitors
- Provide market insight and input into the tools and dashboards the team relies on, working alongside the software function
About You
- Strong understanding of Australia's energy markets, ideally with exposure to the NEM Dispatch Engine
- Background in energy trading, market analysis or risk modelling
- Sharp analytical mindset, with the ability to interpret market signals and complex systems, and explain them clearly to others
- Excellent communication skills and confidence engaging across commercial and technical teams
- Exposure to Python, SQL or data visualisation tools
- Experience with operational software or data pipelines
