Case Study
More than recruitment: building Modo Energy's first Australian team
Entering a new market is rarely just a hiring problem. It is a legal problem, a location problem, a regulatory problem and a hiring problem all at once, and they all land at the same time. The businesses that get it right tend to have a partner who can hold several of those threads together.

Modo Energy, a leading energy data innovator, was entering Australia and needed exactly that. Here is how the first year came together.

The challenge

Modo Energy was entering the Australian market and needed to build a local team from the ground up, quickly and credibly. The people hired in year one would define Modo's early reputation and commercial capability in a new geography.

The complexity went well beyond recruitment. Modo was also navigating legal entity setup, the regulatory environment, and decisions about where to base its Australian operation. It needed a partner who could hold several threads at once.

The approach

We partnered with Modo across its first year in Australia, providing both hands on recruitment and strategic advisory. On the hiring side, we placed Energy Market Analysts, Data Scientists and Account Executives, the technical and commercial foundation Modo needed to launch.

Beyond recruitment, we advised on legal entity setup, office location planning and the wider considerations of market entry, drawing on direct experience supporting energy businesses moving into Australia. The aim was simple: help Modo move efficiently and avoid the common pitfalls.

The result

Within its first year, Modo Energy had a strong, capable Australian team. Because the engagement covered more than hiring, Modo could focus on what it does best, with a trusted local partner managing the complexity around it.

In their words

“Enemix played a critical role in building our team from the ground up as part of our strategy to establish a strong presence in the Australian energy market. Since our move to Australia, Enemix has helped scale the business by placing key roles including Energy Account Managers, Energy Analysts, and Data Scientists. Beyond recruitment, Enemix also provided strategic advisory on legal entity setup, office location planning, and broader market entry considerations. I highly recommend working with Enemix.”

What this tells you about entering the Australian energy market
  • Market entry is more than headcount. The first hires, the legal setup and the location decision are connected, and treating them in isolation creates avoidable problems.
  • Year one hires carry your reputation. In a new geography, the quality of your early team is what the market judges you on.
  • A partner who has done it before saves time. Local experience turns unknown unknowns into a checklist.
